Here's a portrait of Kimya Dawson done for the New Yorker (plus some of the color variations I went through to get to the final). I was pretty excited to get this assignment because I like the Moldy Peaches. It's nice they're getting some recognition (albeit post-breakup, er, "hiatus").

"The Madness of the Upper Class," The L Magazine, March 19-25, 2008

The Money Issue of the L Magazine hits stands today! I was asked to illustrate a story about renting a room in a decaying upper east side penthouse. The climax of the story comes with the narrator and a relative of the owners discovering a bottle of 19th century port stashed behind the wainscoting.

Ilana, Em and I have started a blog with some of our fellow illustrators/ bar buddies. Ilana described the blog's statement of purpose as "sort of like back in art school when seeing your work up on the wall with everyone else made you want to try that much harder and gave you a bit of vital perspective to boot" and that sounds like a good goal to me.
It just kicked off yesterday so be on the lookout for upcoming art, news and discussion of the path in life we've chosen.

Li Yang's latest film tells the story of a young Chinese woman who is kidnapped and taken to a remote village where she is sold as a bride. For this piece, the art director asked me to do the drawing large scale and with a brush. Here are some unused sketches:

Earlier this month, Portland's Bagdad theater was the site of the first "Supertrash Film Fest & Exhibition." Jason Leivian, the art exhibition organizer, asked illustrators to reimagine posters for their favorite grindhouse and B-movies. Here are some pics from the lobby during the screenings:
